Lil' Hummer's Wolf's Den, Hwy A & TT

The meeting was called to order by President Jack Andraschko at 9:00 A.M.

Minutes of the club meeting of July, 2014 were read.    Pat made a motion to approve the minutes, Dan second the motion.  All approved.

Treasurer's report:

Current balance in savings is $5048.51. Balance in checking is $6782.72  with a deposit of: $939.00 (membership/clothing and ticket sales) interest earned $.26.   Expenses being:  $708.96 to Webco for club hats, $23.90 to Hummer for postage and advertising for Wisconsin "free" day.

Membership report:

Mike intends to send membership renewals to those addresses that have not renewed their memberships.   Any renewals that come in this fall will be applied to the 2015 season.

Currently we have:

            54 Family

            30 Single

            11 Associate

             Trail report:

  • The problematic area on Lost Lake Road has been salted. The bags of salt along with the spreader are currently being stored at Wierschke's.
  • Dick Gunter, Town Chairman has contacted the road crew working on Forest Road; they will put an apron where the blacktop is continually breaking off by Atvers getting on to Forest Road. The cost to the club should range between $200.00-$300.00
  • Bids are in for the work to be done on the trail between Cty Hwy T and Hummers. It should be complete this year. We will pay for the work; then be reimbursed by the Forestry Department.
  • South Shore Drive:
    • Signs are being printed and will be put in place on South Shore Drive as soon as they are ready.
    • The cost of speed limit signage is being kept down, as Troy is re-covering signs that we had in inventory.
    • Garth Luebke volunteered to contact Break-a-Way, Jeckl & Hydes and Firelite for associate memberships, as their businesses will be enhanced with an ATV route leading to their establishments.
  • CTY HWY T
    • Our request to get the section of Cty Hwy T open from where the trail turns toward Hummers to Hwy 55, has been denied by the Langlade County Highway Commissioner.
    • We are landlocked to the north, because of the Boy Scout Camp and we are landlocked to the south because of a marsh and creek.
    • It was decided to re-open our request, by conducting a signature campaign to get that section of road open on a trial basis. PLEASE, we ask that you stop at Trailside Inn, Hummers, Schaeffer's Country Store or Walleye-lodge to sign the petition.
    • Pat Girtz will also look into a traffic counter to be placed on that section of road, as the Hwy Department says approximate 1,400 cars use that road on a daily basis. Hummer and Pat think that number may be excessive.
    • On a side note, not only opening the listed section of road has the potential to enhance Trailside's business, but will also enhance our club, as we will then be able to advertise we have trail access to overnight stays.
  • Some of the signs on Pickerel Lake Road are broken or missing. Keith Verhagen will let Pat Girtz know what he needs to replace the signage.
  • Areas in Augustyne Springs are getting bad. Eric at the Forestry Department will be made aware of the situation.

The meeting was called to order by President Jack Andraschko at 9:00 A.M.

Minutes of the club meeting of May, 2014 were read by Mary Ann Wierschke.  Pat Girtz motioned to approve the minutes as read, and seconded by Dan Wierschke.  All approved and motion carried.

Treasurer's report was given by Hummer:

Current balance in savings is $5043.49. Balance in checking is $6576.11   Motion made by Dan Wierschke, seconded by Pat Girtz, to accept the treasurer's report.  All in favor.  Motion carried.

Membership report:

Not available at this time

             Trail report:

  • Request for bids to the smoothing out of trail between Hummers and Cty Hwy T have not been submitted as of date. Permission from the landowner has been granted to do the work
  • The Donovan's from Trailside Inn have gone to the town board, requesting to get Cty Hwy T from our trail to State Hwy 55 open. They are now going to the County Highway Commission for permission; members of our club will represent the club, with a memorandum to cover signage costs if that segment of Cty Hwy becomes available to ATVers.
  • The residents of South Shore Drive are attending a town meeting to see if that segment of road will be opened to ATVers.
    • (foot note: That segment of road has been approved to be opened)
    • The route is not legal to ride ATV's on until all signage is up.
  • Dan Wierschke will check to see who has "trail map" boxes, and which ones need more maps. He will also collect any donations from those boxes.

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Free Day was a success, one of the reasons being that it was advertised more, thanks to Hummer. Our club along with White Lake, and Parrish Highlands offered free hamburgers and brats. The donation jar covered our costs. Our club picked up some new members and sold some clothing.
  • Raffle ticket sales are slow, please if you are willing to sell some, please contact Hummer for a few tickets. In the near future, hopefully we will have two segments of roads to sign: Cty Hwy T (depending on approval) and South Shore Road. This raffle will help defray our costs.
    • Tickets for the meat raffle (a chest freezer and $400.00 worth of meat) were handed out for club members to start selling. Raffle will take place on September 13, at Rick's Roadhouse. Ticket cost is $20.00

New Business:

  • The Treasurer's position is more than Hummer has time for. Thus, he has submitted his resignation (he is still our Vice-President) Mary Ann Wierschke was nominated and she has accepted. She will act as temporary treasurer until another volunteer is found.
  • Tammy from the Forestry Department has resigned. We wish her well in her new endeavors. A replacement has not been named as of yet.
  • We are out of club hats. Jan Fischer will order another 96 hats. They will be on sale at Hummers.

Club Rides:

  • The ride to Wabeno to Support the Forest County ATV/Snowmobile club was successful.  We left with 23 riders.  A few of the lucky ones won meat and cheese at the meat raffles.  We ate lunch, gassed up, on the return trip stopped at Frog Alley, before coming back home.

  • The July ride will be held on Thursday, July 24th.  We will ride the Dunbar/Goodman trails. If you are joining us, we will trailer from Hill's Still at 9:30 am. When we arrive, there is a public area to park just before Dunbar. We will travel south to the Northwoods Bar for lunch, then get gas near Jungle Jim's before heading back north. This will be a full day of riding. These trails are basically sand, which equates to dust, so don't forget to pack your goggles and dust masks.

  • Future rides:  (Details are still being worked on, so watch for exact times and locations)
    • August  (3rd Saturday) - ride to one of the shelters in the Parrish Highlands system for lunch - sponsored by the club.
    • September... working on a moon light  ride to White Lake, leaving around 4pm dinner in White Lake  then returning to Hummer's

Dan Wierschke made a motion to adjourn, Hummer seconded it the motion was approved and carried.

Next meeting will be held on July 21 at 9am at Hummers.
